Airtel Money Users To Make Electricity Payments Free For 6 Months

Airtel Money has signed a partnership with Kenya Power (KPLC) that will allow Kenyans to pay electricity bills at zero transaction fees via the mobile money platform.

Airtel Money managing director Anne-Kinuthia Otieno said the initiative will help cushion Kenyans during these tough economic times and will benefit both the postpaid and prepaid Kenya Power customers, for the next six months.

Airtel Money to Pay Power and Other utilities

Under the deal, Airtel customers Kenyans can now pay their electricity bills through a USSD code *334#, choose Airtel Paybill then KPLC.

“We are now glad to offer Kenyans this solution where they will enjoy zero transaction cost for the next six months when they make their electricity payments. The cost saving on the charge per transaction will enable customers to utilize their money for other purchases,” said Ms Otieno.

Kenya Power managing director Joseph Siror has welcomed the partnership saying that it will offer customers seamless payment connection.

“We are happy to have Airtel onboard as one of our revenue collection agencies for our postpaid and prepaid customers. After six months of free transaction fees, customers will still be able to pay for their electricity bills at an affordable cost in line with Airtel’s proposition of providing highly affordable services to its customers,” Mr Siror said.

Airtel Money has embarked on partnerships with strategic stakeholders to offer cheaper and convenient mobile money services in a move to attract more Kenyans to the platform.

Other Airtel Money unique benefits include sending money between Airtel to Airtel network for free, getting 25 percent extra airtime or data purchased through Airtel Money and saving up to 40 percent on withdrawal charges at any Airtel Money agent.
